Why Do Most People Consider the Resurrection of Jesus to Be More Important Than His Crucifixion?

by Jesus is Lord! on November 13, 2011

Why is Jesus' resurrection more important to Christians than his crucifixion? Surely the main thing is Jesus sacrificing his life to atone for our sins. If anything, the resurrection diminishes the extent of this sacrifice doesn't it?

Personally I think they both go hand in hand, If he hadn’t died : we would not be saved, and He if would not have been resurrected then we could not have the Holy Spirit within us

On the contrary, if Jesus didn’t resurrect then He wasn’t who He claimed to be, God incarnate.
He wasn’t free from the law of sin and death (meaning He wouldn’t have been proven to have been sinless).

And if Jesus wasn’t God, and He was a sinner like the rest of us, then we have no hope in His message.

He would go down in history with the rest of the now dead impostors, Gautama Buddha, Mohammed, etc.

That’s a good point. But you have to admit rising from the dead is fairly impressive, especially so since he purportedly spent 3 days in Hell before doing so. Not sure what he did down there, but it’s one hell of a story.

I think the resurrection separates Christianity from other religions. He’s been the only religious figure to come back to life.

His Resurrection is most important because without it, he would have just been another dude that got crucified, he is the only one that could have and was ressurected from that

Incarnation (God taking on human form in the person of Jesus Christ) and the Resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ are the only two events in world history that really matter.
Jesus said he was God and the only way and would prove it by his resurrection from the dead. His resurrection proved he was God and thus God exists. If there were just the crucifixion, there would be no proof and no Christianity.
